Today was a beautiful 60 degree day. We left Lake Myvatn and drove past this river. This looks amazing, but the “midges” that they said are around this lake are really kind of creepy fly things. They don’t bite but they are big and land on you.
Then to Gudafoss. Foss means waterfall (or maybe just Falls)
Now I know I have said they are casual about safety, but reallly check these out. Look for Max’s shoe on the last one.
From there we drove to Eyjafjodur. This is honestly an untouched photo. This is really what Iceland looks like. From my car. With a point-and-shoot camera.
Now these were taken through the front windshield as we were driving. I think it is the first time I have ever seen Max a little scared.
We drove by our happy dairy cows.
A town that wanted you to know what was in it…
An unusual church– this was built by a wealthy dairy farmer about 100 years ago.
And wild African Violets..I don’t think I have ever seen these.
Akureyri is a lovely town–but I forgot to take pictures. Maybe tomorrow. We walked up to the botanical gardens to see this sculpture. It was done in 1906 by Einar Jonsson. We had seen the plaster cast in his house in Reykjavik . He is carrying his dead wife on his back and his son in his arms.
Here are some of my pictures of his work from Reyjavik
And obviously everyone was out enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
Love
