Stykkisholmur was just beautiful. Again you can feel geology happening. Surrounding it they say there are 2500 little islands–about–depending on if the tide is in or out. Here you can see some of them.
Oh—this is a small town–someone told the owner of the hotel that we had taken a picture of her sign…she thought that was so funny–she promises to send me a picture of her new sign.
On the way out of town we passed this old bridge.
We walked around Reykjavik enjoying the things we have fallen in love with…
City statues
Either a place to play backgammon or some artistic commentary..
Adorable little houses
Signs–this is a little like the Rosetta Stone
Cool guys in Icelandic sweaters.
And another joke on banks. Though I don’t actually understand it
I will tell a sweet story. Here they let graffiti artists paint on abandoned buildings, and since they are all friends if they run out of space they will just check with each other before painting over someone’s painting.
Well the area below was just a vacant lot (because of the crash)..so the artists painted it, but then they didn’t like all the rubble on the ground to they cleaned it up and made the heart. But it still wasn’t a great place so they asked the city for money to finish “Heart Park”. Which is what is happening now.
Oh more Icelandic sweaters with a little twist .
And then the perfecta–a blond in an Icelandic sweater, wearing shorts over black tights, with a baby in a baby carriage.
It will be hard to leave tomorrow.
Though I am missing all of you.
Love
