The Castle and The Church

Today was our last day in Kraków.   We went to the two prettiest places.   And it was sunny and lovely.

Wawel Castle is loved by the Polish people.   There were hundreds of school children there– most go twice in their elementary years.   The Polish state only existed from 1919 to 1939.. Before that they had not been independent since the 1700’s.  So I think establishing the continuity of the people is important.  And it has been beautifully restored .

Oh. Vodka  (the Polish national drink) is spelled Wodka…so yes, you do say “vavel “.  Incidentally it is VERY easy to drink too much lemon vodka–which they just serve in shot glasses.  No trying to disguise liquor here!!

Then I went to St Mary’s . This is still a very actively Catholic Community.  The churches here have masses going on all day.. So I kept missing a free time to go to St Mary’s.   Finally made it and paid my 5 Zolty (about $1.25) to take pictures inside.
