The Egyptian Museum

King Tutankhamun

The deal seems to be–get up and out early to try avoid rush hour traffic–much like in the Bay Area you can do a 7 to 3 day, or see the same things taking from 8 to 6…

Amazingly, our tour guide, Tarik, was able to get us to the King Tut rooms before ANYONE was there…you can double click on the pictures and it turns into a slide show.   We were standing right by that amazing gold chair..just us.   And the golden coffin and jewelry…we were just looking at it..

The museum has 150000 pieces.   It was built in the early 1900’s.  There is a new–modern museum planned, though this one will still be open for something..you can see there are areas of wear and tear.

Then we went to The Citadel.  Saladin first built here in 1179..it was used for the ruler since…In 1820’s (or close) Mohammed Ali built his Mosque.. Mohammed Ali ruled from 1800-1849, he modernized a lot of Egypt.  He cooperated with the British so it wasn’t exactly like Egypt was independent at that time.   THe arches are from a mosque built in 1200!!

And riding around the city you really know you are NOT in Kansas..

Having a very busy blast…taken on a Nile boat eating Baba Gnosh  love maxandbarb
