Yesterday we arrived at Abu Simbel for Max’s birthday. What a fantastic place to celebrate a birthday. We arrived from the water, so saw the Temples as they were meant to be seen.
This tomb was built by Rames II to glorify himself…he was way up in Nubian territory and wanted everyone to know that he was the toughest guy on the Nile… But he also loved his wife Neferti–so he built her a little temple. They don’t allow pictures inside..but there ar MANY rooms carved into the mountain and are lovely.
Oh…the Chinese lady — the people from the tour sang Max “Happy Birthday ” at breakfast, she came over and gave him a little change purse…so sweet.
At night –and it does get dark quickly in the dessert– we went back to the Temples for a light show.. It gave some history cand was really well done…also just let you look at those amazing carvings for an hour..
This morning we took a bus from ABu Simbel through the Great Sahara Desset to Aswan. We were fairly close to Sudan so the Military presence was marked.
We are now going to cruise the Nile for a couple of days.. And see Temples….we started out with a sail boat ride–which they call FEllucas…

Yes. That is me buying trinkets on a felluca on the Nile from a lovely Nubian man!!!!
We also went to a lovely Nubian museum…This all has been so much better then we ever expected.
love barbara
