We spent this morning floating down the NILE… I can still hardly believe that we are ON THE NILE….even after being here for 8 days..it just seems unreal. The Nile is not as big as The Mississippi River was when we were in Memphis, TN…but the fertile area surrounding the Nile is as thin as I thought it would be….you can always see the dessert behind the geeen strip.
After lunch we went to our second Temple of the day…we took a horse and carriage there….I have to say, I have always avoided goofy things like carriage rides….and yet it was SO much fun.
And then another amazing temple….seems like everyone we see is more complicated then the one before. This was built by the Ptolemy’s who were the Greek Pharoahs…they ruled for about 400 years, but only the last one, Cleopatra learned Egyptian! But they wanted to support the priesthood so they continued the old religion and business lt some big temples.. this one was buried in sand for the most part, so the cArvings are very clear.
Here is Horus
And then a few pictures of the temple …I think for this one and the next two days all I can do is give you an idea of the beauty of the art work…the size of these complexes is just impossible to convey..,as is the feeling of peace that you get in these temples..they really were sites of worship.
Tomorrow we go the Valley of the Kings, Queens and Luxor Temple. thanks for following our trip..love Barbara
