I like having a Mission Statement. I think about what lured us to make a particular trip.
For this HUGE, SLOW trip to Europe…I want to spend time being rather then doing. My heroes are the travelers in the late 1800’s who would go somewhere and stay long enough to PLAY BRIDGE in the afternoon.
PAST TRIPS: Iceland it was the idea of 300,000 people making a whole, functioning country AND the immediacy of their geology.
Prague and Krakow were both walled cities that were not destroyed in WW2 and after seeing so many rebuilt cities,I was ready for some original stuff.
Egypt…to feel the past. The really distant past. And the Islamic present.
Russia ..The Hermitage. It just fascinated me.. I think the art, which we love to look at, but also the idea that it was collected from Europe when Russians were not entirely identified as European.
SE Asia: It was just a mystery to me.
All those trips surpassed expectations.
