Well when we woke up this morning it was raining pretty hard and we had a fairly long drive, so I thought I would have nothing to put in my blog. So I brought my camera to breakfast as Max has been SO thrilled with their breakfast buffet.
Yes! You can have salami, cheese and ham for breakfast!! Honestly he thinks he is in heaven.
Then essentially everywhere has homemade bread. (I keep hearing a lady with a Danish accent saying “But why would you buy bread?”. This is clearly a fantasy as no one has an accent here)

and they all serve it with the adorable cloth.
(Yes I am eating wheat and taking Aleve! Maria don’t worry about the flourless chocolate cake!)
And because they are so gracious they have a waffle station.

Which I don’t think is a traditional Dane or Icelandic food.
Then we started driving through the rain, and I had to let you guys see the green moss– remember a couple of days ago it was golden.
And a roadside waterfall or two…
Then we drove through the Sandur– which is what is left when glaciers flood an area–mostly pebbles. The last big flood here after a volcano melted the inside of a glacier and then all the water popped out at once was in 1996. This shows a bridge strut it is partially buried in the glacier debris.

Can you imagine the force?? Like I said this is just an oversized place.
Well we got to the glaciers and the sun came out and the were all you can think of. Huge and quiet, yet menacing in their own way. These are tongues of Vatnajokull–the largest icecap outside of the poles.
That little piece of white behind us is the glacier.
Then driving to another..

See people on this one to give you an idea of the size. Climbing glaciers on your own is VERY dangerous–so we didnt.
Oh. Lovely waitress from last night.
On to the EAST Fjords tomorrow. Tomorrow night we are staying in Faskrudsfjodur for the simple reason a stream runs under the hotel and I wanted to see that..
We are very happy. Love
