We are spending the night in Birmingham, which gave us the time to go to the civil Rights Institute/Museum. I’ve wanted to go for a while. As one of my friends said this summer, sometimes we just have to bear witness.
The legally instituted segregation policies in the South were studied by both Hitler and the South Africa Aparthied regimes. What a horrible legacy.
The museum was done on a time line and it was very effective. We were too engrossed to take many pictures.
Here is the 16th Street Baptist Church where 5 young girls were killed by a bomb.

Here is the Freedom Riders journey… and their bus. So many were beat up.

It is inspiring to know that people can change a political system. It is heartbraking to see what the people had to endure during that process.
And of course…

Little Rock, tomorrow. Love Barbara
